Voting Record

The Cazayoux Truth was disappointed, but not surprised, by the results on election night. However, the truth will not be silenced. Informed voters have a chance this fall to find the right candidate for Louisiana’s Sixth Congressional District.

Cazayoux Truth will continue to watch the actions of Louisiana’s newest Democratic Congressman. Starting with his first vote:

He got his plastic voting card and cast his first vote on the House floor at 1:37 p.m., opting against a Republican effort to retool the farm bill.

The Politico reported today on Cazayoux’s attempt to hide from his new role as Democratic Congressman and Superdelegate. That’s right, Cazayoux will be casting a vote for the Democratic nominee for President. Who will he support? The more conservative of the two candidates, or the more liberal?

Being the newest Democrat in Congress also makes him the newest superdelegate, arguably a much more awesome responsibility this election year than the tut-tutting of a fledgling congressman. It was something Cazayoux didn’t even want to think about.

“You know, I’ve been running for three months,” he told Politico in a hallway outside the House chamber, “and that’s just not something I’m going to address right now.”

Was he being lobbied by either of the campaigns? Had he received the barrage of phone calls that other superdelegates have described — the answering machine messages from Madeleine Albright, the cell phone calls from Bill Clinton?

I don’t know. Not particularly. Maybe it’ll start.”

Had he ever met Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama in person? Had he ever been brought backstage at an event for a sudden tête-à-tête, as other superdelegates had?

Not that I know of.

What about on the phone? Maybe Obama or Clinton had called to congratulate him on his hard-fought race?

They may have talked to my staff. We’ve had three elections here in three months, you know. I just don’t know.

Cazayoux cannot remain naive for long.

“Naive” was a kind word to use. I find it hard to believe that Don Cazayoux doesn’t know if he talked on the phone to Bill Clinton and doesn’t know if he ever met Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. Those sorts of events are hard to forget.

Perhaps Cazayoux also forgot the donation of $500 from him and his wife to Hillary Clinton. We just thought we would remind him.

Be informed.

CazayouxTruth has shown you his record, and provided links to the documents to back it. But you don’t have to take my word on it. A political science professor at LSUS has posted documentation on his blog concerning the ideology of Don Cazayoux, and here is what he found:

Cazayoux has had a fairly populist and liberal record overall in the Legislature. Over the past three years his scores on the voting scorecard produced in my Louisiana Legislature Log gives him numbers (where 0 is “perfectly” liberal/populist) of 44, 30, and 10.

Read the entire post at Between The Lines to learn about many of the votes that led to the conclusion that, despite what he tells you, Don Cazayoux is a liberal.

Vote your heart, but be informed.

Cazayoux voted to give his fellow Legislators lifetime health insuranceLouisiana House of Representatives

At a time when middle class families face difficulties in maintaining consistent healthcare coverage when they change jobs or retire, Representative Cazayoux voted to give his fellow Legislators lifetime health insurance with HB 1028 (2006).

Is this looking out for the middle class, or looking out for the politicians?

How much more damage can he do in Washington?

Be Informed. Vote Mat 3rdDuring political campaigns, candidates and their consultants create an image of a leader whose values fit with the district. I strongly believe that during the race for the Sixth Congressional District in Louisiana, one candidate, in particular, has created an image that does not match his long record as a State Legislator.

It is naive to think that a politician who has a consistent record of doing one thing in Baton Rouge, will do something entirely different in Washington DC. This website is my way of breaking through the clutter and providing voters with an informed picture of Don Cazayoux’s voting record.

This site will demonstrate a side of Cazayoux’s voting record that he probably does not want the voters to know about. I’ll provide the links to the votes and bills, so you can check the facts for yourself.

CazayouxTruth.org is my way of making sure the voters of Louisiana are informed. On May 3rd it is important that every citizen VOTE. I encourage you to vote your heart, but be informed.
