A Message From Lane Grigsby

An Unlikely Success Story

I grew up living with my mother, sister and aunt in my grandmother’s house. My father abandoned us when I was still a toddler. I graduated high school and my football coach asked where I would be attending college. I told him I couldn’t go because my family had no money. He made some calls and the next thing I knew I was enrolled in LSU, working in a kitchen to earn money. The coach believed in me when I barely believed in myself. I was completely unprepared for college. Standing in the enrollment line, an advisor asked what my major was. I told him I had no idea what that meant.

Because of good people who cared so deeply about my future, I defied the odds. I eventually became an engineer and the first in my family to earn a college education. I am also proud to have served in the U.S. Army.

My good fortune continued. I’ve been married to my wife Bobbi for 44 years and have been blessed with 3 children and 7 grandchildren. I founded and built a thriving business.

Given my humble beginnings, my life has been truly remarkable. Politically correct or not, I thank God for this, plain and simple.

The first third of my life was about education and starting my family, the second was about raising my kids and nurturing my business. The last third is about making a real difference for my grandchildren and the state that has been so good to me. That is why I became involved in politics.
